Birds, Portugal Masters and “The Gift”: what the Algarve has to offer in October

Monthly guide published by the Algarve Tourism Board since March 2000, will be in print format

The Bird Watching Festival, in Sagres, the Portugal Masters, in golf, and concerts by The Gift and David Fonseca are some of the suggestions for events for October in the Algarve.

The month starts with the 13th Festival of Bird Watching & Nature Activities, in Sagres, taking place from the 1st to the 5th of October. The protagonist of this edition of the biggest nature event in the country is the alcatraz (or gannet), the largest seabird sighted in Portuguese waters and one of the many migratory birds that can be seen passing off Cape São Vicente.

New features include cycling on the Rota Vicentina, night tours to see bats, insects and scorpions and lectures and workshops on marine bioacoustics, among more than two and a half hundred activities.

Also at the beginning of the month, and as part of the Algarve International Piano Festival, pianists Mário Laginha and Pedro Burmester perform in a double concert with the Orquestra Sinfónica do Algarve at Cineteatro Louletano, on the 1st, and at TEMPO – Teatro Municipal from Portimão, on the 2nd.

The concert is dedicated to Bernardo Sassetti and the orchestra will be conducted by maestro Armando Mota.

The “Coral” tour, which debuts The Gift’s new sound – and new album, reaches Faro on the 6th for a unique concert at Teatro das Figuras. Later, the tour of the new visual album by David Fonseca, “Living Room Bohemian Apocalypse”, passes through the Centro Cultural de Lagos, on the 26th.

In between there is still “Coisas de Mulheres”, a show by stand up comedy by Ana Arrebentadinha that will lead the spectator to review himself in the situations reported as someone who laughs in the mirror (the 15th, at the Albufeira Municipal Auditorium); and a flamenco dance show, in “Dantzari Bailaor”, by Jesus Herrera, (29th, at the Lagoa Municipal Auditorium).

At the end of the month, from the 27th to the 30th of October, the Portugal Masters arrives at the Dom Pedro Victoria Golf Course, in Vilamoura, and with it the best golfers in Europe, who compete in the biggest tournament in Portugal and the only one to be part of the European tour, common prize money of 2 million euros. The sport has 40 courses in the region and is today the main tourist product in the Algarve outside the bathing season, with more than one million rounds a year.

These and many other events are gathered in the monthly guide edited by the Algarve Tourism Region since March 2000 and which will now leave the printed format, this being its last paper edition, to be made available exclusively in digital format. here
