180 thousand euros is the value attributed to the third Participatory Budget of Faro, presented this Thursday, 15th of September, and whose proposals can start to be presented from the 1st of October.

After two years of the project marked by the pandemic, in which it was not possible to have much publicity in person, the Chamber of Faro now expects that this third edition will have a greater involvement of the population and the presentation of more proposals than in previous years.

«In 2020, there was practically no disclosure, but we still had projects. However, this year we hope that the process will be normal and that we will go to all locations to make this disclosure, which is more than that. It is there that projects are often born, because people go to these sessions, start talking, get together and develop their proposals», emphasized Rogério Bacalhau.

For the President of the Chamber of Faro, the Participatory Budget makes sense because «it is important for people to be affiliated with the localities and to realize that that project was also conceived by them. It's different from communicating to the Chamber or talking to the President, giving an idea and then the Chamber developing it, this is, from my point of view, the crux of the issue of Participatory Budgets».

After the launch on Thursday, the process will now begin with the presentation of proposals at the Participatory Assemblies in person, between 1 October and 13 November. Then, between the 14th of November and the 8th of December, proposals can be submitted online, at the OP portal, followed by the technical analysis (between 9 December and 31 January), the complaint period (between 1 and 20 February), voting during March and presentation of the results in April.

In this initiative, which aims to give citizens the power to decide how public budget funds should be invested, all citizens aged 18 or over, residing, working or studying in the municipality, can participate and who can submit proposals. in the areas of sport, culture, social action, education, among others.

The projects most voted by citizens will be the winners until the 180 thousand euros budget is exhausted. During the process, each person can vote twice, on two different projects, even if they have not submitted any proposal and each parish/parish union will always have at least one project.

Despite the stipulated amount being 180 thousand euros, the president of the Chamber of Faro stresses that there may be an adjustment taking into account the projects presented.

Along with the OP Faro, there is also the OP Escolas, in which all students in the 3rd cycle and secondary schools in the municipality will be able to present proposals and vote at their educational establishment. The value for the OP Faro-School is 10 thousand euros.
