The project to improve the Ribeira de Aljezur, started last year, was this Tuesday, September 13, resumed by the City Council after suspension due to the interposition of a precautionary measure.

Now, initially programmed Environmental Engineering application actions will be resumed, which will imply manual removal of some areas occupied by invasive species and native species initially foreseen in the project will be planted in susceptible spaces that can consolidate the slopes of the stream and restore biodiversity. , called into question by the strong presence of invasive plants.

“This intervention will not have the initial impact, nor will it reach the objectives initially set, largely due to the impossibility of effectively removing the invasive plants existing along the initially programmed intervention area”, says the municipality in a note, adding that this intervention is vital and vital for the attempt to «value and condition the expansion of invasive species in order to save what still remains of the original riparian gallery of this stream, as well as the tremendous need to minimize the erosive action of the strongly present slopes and essentially caused by the rhizomes of some species".

The resumption of work was possible due to the readaptation of the initial project and redefinition of some interventions so that we were still able to execute some important parts.
