The best national and international athletes will compete, from the 23rd to the 25th of September, in the first edition of the “Albufeira Footvolley Cup”, at Praia dos Pescadores. O prize money is 1800 euros.
In addition to the six Portuguese teams, the beach will host six more teams: two representing Spain, Israel, Austria, France and Italy.
In parallel to the main competition, the “Algarve Cup 4×4” is held, also for the first time in Albufeira, an initiative that aims to promote the practice of footvolley in the region and which counts on the participation of two teams from Albufeira: the Imortal DC and FC Ferreiras.
«This is the 17th year that Albufeira has hosted footvolley events, whether national or international», says José Carlos Rolo, mayor of Albufeira.
In addition to holding the National Championship during the summer, the mayor also highlights «the holding of the 3rd stage of the «European Footvolley League 2019 - Albufeira, Portugal, in which our country rose to the first place on the podium in men's and the European Footvolley Championship 2017, in which Portugal won the title of European Champion, by defeating the French duo that held the title».
The event starts during the afternoon of the 23rd of September, with the qualifying matches of the “Algarve Cup 4×4”.
The Algarve teams face each other with the objective of determining the finalists who return to the beach, on the last day of the event, for the final games. The best national and international athletes, in competition, in the “Albufeira Footvolley Cup 2022”, enter the field on the 24th of September.
Group games and qualifying rounds take place throughout the day, with a view to qualifying the best teams in the championship for the final, on the 25th.
José Carlos Rolo highlighted the importance of the event for the promotion of Albufeira as a tourist destination of excellence for the practice of this sport.
«Praia dos Pescadores has served as a stage for several Footvolley events, in what is a privileged setting for large outdoor sporting events. We have all the conditions to host this type of event throughout the year, a mild climate, sun, beautiful beaches, hotel capacity, quality cuisine and a confirmed experience at an organizational level», he emphasizes.
The “Albufeira Footvolley Cup 2022” has a prize money in the global amount of 1800 euros. The best classified will receive a cash prize of 1000 euros (1st prize), 500 euros (2nd prize), 200 euros (3rd prize) and 100 euros (4th prize).
The games are broadcast live via livestream, on the FNFV website.
