Volta: Délio Fernandez (Tavira) was the best “Algarvian” and ends the 8th stage in 5th position

Vicente de Mateos came in 11th

Monegasque cyclist Victor Langellotti, from the Burgos-BH team, was the somewhat unexpected winner of the 8th stage of the Volta a Portugal, held this Saturday, August 13, between Viana do Castelo and Fafe, over a distance of 182,4 kilometers.

In this run, the best cyclist of an Algarve team was Délio Fernandez, from Atum General/Tavira/AP Maria Nova Hotel, who finished 5th.

Vicente de Mateos, from Aviludo/Louletano/Loulé Concelho, followed in 11th.

A surprise attack 4 kilometers from the finish ended up being a victory in the stage for the man from Burgos-BH. The Uruguayan Mauricio Moreira (Glassdrive-Q8-Anicolor) was second, and the North American Scott McGill (Wildlife Generation Pro Cycling) came right after.

At Geral, everything remains unchanged: Frederico Figueiredo continues with the yellow jersey, keeping seven seconds ahead of Mauricio Moreira and 38 seconds on Luís Fernandes (Rádio Popular-Paredes-Boavista).

The cyclists from the Algarve formations also maintain the same classification in the General: Alejandro Marque (Tuna General/Tavira/AP Maria Nova Hotel) continues in 6th place, followed by Delio Fernandez, in 7th, and Jesus Del Pino (Aviludo/Louletano/ Loulé Concelho), in 8th.

Tomorrow, Sunday, the 14th, the ninth and penultimate stage takes place, with the mythical ascent to Senhora da Graça. The start will be in Paredes and the finish will be at the top of Senhora da Graça, in Mondim de Basto, with the goal coinciding with a first-class mountain count.
