«We believe that Silves is an ideal space to think about these issues of peace and war, looking at the world of peace that we want and looking for points of contact, cooperation, respect and interaction», says José Eduardo Franco, coordinator of the PhD scientific committee. in Global Studies from the Open University.

As usual, the doctorate organizes an annual forum and, this time, the theme will be «War and Peace in the Age of Globalization» – an event scheduled to take place in Silves, between 21 and 23 October, with registration open to all.

Ao Sul Informação, José Eduardo Franco highlights the importance of the topic, taking into account the current reality and explains that the forum – “which will also constitute a training action for teachers, tourist, cultural agents and interested parties in general” – will be composed of conferences given by doctoral students, by PhD professors and national and international guests.

The coordinator also explains that all interested parties can take advantage of the event for personal or professional training because, although it is promoted by the doctorate, it is open to the community and to all age groups.

For now, the event is expected to take place at the Center for Luso-Arab Studies, but if there are many people registered, it can move to the Teatro Mascarenhas Gregório, also in Silves.

In the opinion of José Eduardo Franco, it is important that the event takes place in person to “try to overcome the pandemic years”. «We believe that meeting and sharing between people is important to break the distances that make human relationships more imperfect», he says.

Applications can be made through the e-mail addresses [email protected] or [email protected].

Until the 25th of September, registration costs 30 euros. Between the 26th of the same month and the date of the event, the price rises to 50 euros.

To our newspaper, José Eduardo Franco also stressed that the Algarve region was chosen for this year's forum because it "receives many people" and the intention is that "people from abroad also participate".

«In addition, the Algarve is a region rich in history and heritage and, in this case, the municipality of Silves has a fascinating history also linked to the theme of the congress», concluded the coordinator of the scientific committee for the PhD in Global Studies at the Open University.
