Plastic turtle and fishing nets warn of ocean pollution in Praia da Rocha

A "large" turtle made with plastic, waste collected along the coast and fishing nets. Here is the sculpture that is installed in the sports area of ​​Praia da Rocha and that wants to alert, during the summer, to the pollution of beaches and oceans.

«Made exclusively with plastic and waste collected along the Portuguese coast by the Brigada do Mar, as well as fishing nets lost in the ocean and collected by the Portuguese Navy, this large sculpture, representing a turtle, aims to alert and raise awareness of the Pollution of beaches and oceans – according to the European Parliament, in the European Union, more than 80% of the garbage found on beaches is plastic, mostly for single use», explains the “TransformMAR” project.

With a presence from north to south of the country in the last four years, having already collected more than 110 tons of plastic, the TransforMAR project is promoted by Lidl Portugal and Electrão, in partnership with Brigada do Mar, Associação Bandeira Azul da Europa (ABAE) , Portuguese Environment Agency (APA), Navy and Quercus.
