Surfer injured in fall in Praia do Tonel was evacuated by helicopter to hospital

Lifeguards pulled the young man out of the water

A 23-year-old Spanish surfer who fell on Tonel beach, in the municipality of Vila do Bispo, and suffered head injuries, was transported by helicopter to the hospital this Sunday afternoon.

According to the National Maritime Authority, the alert was received through the MRCC Lisboa, «with elements of the “SeaWatch” Project being immediately activated for the site, as well as elements of the Volunteer Firefighters of Vila do Bispo and INEM».

The young man was rescued ashore by lifeguards on duty on the beach, «with head injuries, having been promptly assisted on the spot by the Volunteer Firefighters of Vila do Bispo and the “Seawatch” Project.

The surfer was eventually removed from the beach, where, according to the National Maritime Authority, “elements of INEM were waiting to provide differentiated assistance and, after medical evaluation, the victim was transported by an INEM helicopter to a hospital unit”.

The local command of the Maritime Police of Lagos took care of the incident.
