Fisherman dies after suffering cardiac arrest off Portimão

A 54-year-old man died on the morning of this Wednesday, August 24, after suffering a cardiac arrest while fishing on board a vessel about 13 nautical miles (24 kilometers) south of Portimão. 

The alert was received at 6:24.

According to the National Maritime Authority (AMN), “a boat from the Ferragudo Lifeguard Station with an INEM medical team on board was immediately activated”.

Upon arrival at the fishing vessel, the INEM medical team boarded the vessel and declared the victim dead.

«Instructions were given to the master of the fishing vessel to direct it to the Docapesca pier in Parchal, where elements of the local Command of the Maritime Police of Portimão were waiting to carry out due diligence», says the AMN.

The victim's body was then transported by the Volunteer Firefighters of Lagoa to the Institute of Legal Medicine and Forensic Sciences, in Portimão.

The Maritime Police Psychology Office was activated to provide support to the families of the failed fisherman.
