The project for the “Celerator” technology center, dedicated to renewable energies, which will be born next to the Algarve International Circuit (Portimão), will be presented this Friday, August 26, at 15:30 pm. The initiative will count with the presence of the minister Ana Abrunhosa.

This is an initiative of the Associação Parque Tecnológico do Algarve, made up of the University of Algarve and Parkalgar.

The objective of this technological hub is to «develop research, research, development and implementation of energy solutions, applicable to transport and mobility, accelerating the climate transition», explains the Algarve Regional Coordination and Development Commission (CCDR).

The creation of this technological hub includes the construction of facilities (laboratories and test centers with 1.818 m2), the provision of test bench facilities for internal combustion engines with and without coupled hybrid energy systems, the installation of modules for research process of creating and implementing fuel cells in conventional means of transport.

Added to this is the creation of Units for research and development, and installation of units for recycling, with the maximized reuse of end-of-life electric car batteries and the installation of a research and development unit, with a component for comparison with conventional unit, for Otto Thermal engines, using synthetic fuels, for diversified uses.

In the genesis of this technological infrastructure also the technological solutions that will be developed and placed on the market, contributing to fulfill the carbon neutrality commitments assumed by Portugal and the European Union.

The goal was to install five companies from high and medium-high technology sectors and in knowledge-intensive services, installed in the infrastructure in 2024.

The associated eligible investment is around 7 million euros, with ERDF support of 4 million, which corresponds to a co-financing rate of 55%.
