Navy ship recovers wave buoy off the coast of Faro

Hydrographic Institute buoys are essential for permanent monitoring of our coast

The Navy ship NRP Orion recovered, this Wednesday, in collaboration with the Hydrographic Institute, a wave buoy that was adrift at 5 miles, the equivalent of about 9 kilometers, southwest of Faro.

The ship moved to the place where the wave buoy was adrift, having collected this equipment, which was then transported to the port of Faro.

The Hydrographic Institute maintains a network of wave buoys that are equipped with multiple sensors and that allow the acquisition of data on sea waves, meteorology and water temperature, essential for a permanent monitoring of our coast, explains the Portuguese Navy.

The NRP Orion, which has a garrison of eight elements and is commanded by First Lieutenant Fernandes Cabo, will remain on mission in the Southern Maritime Zone.
