Luís Costa wins World Cup race

Luís Costa «proved to be at a much higher level than the competition»

Luís Costa, from Alentejo, who lives in Portimão, is still in great shape at the Paracycling World Cup, in Quebec, Canada. After silver medal in the time trial, the representative of Portugal went up a notch on the podium and won, this Saturday, the class H5 long distance race.

One week away from the World Championship, which will also take place in Canada, «Luís Costa shows excellent form», emphasizes the Portuguese Cycling Federation. In the 61,6 kilometers of this Saturday «it proved to be at a much higher level than the competition».

Luís Costa started by standing out in the company of the Polish Krzyzstof Plewa, but he also left this rival behind to impose himself alone. The Portuguese arrived 28 seconds before the Pole and 55 seconds ahead of the Italian Diego Colombari, who took the remaining
podium positions.

Also from Alentejo, Flávio Pacheco, from Ermidas-Sado, also got into action, this Saturday, in the World Cup, after having failed, on Thursday, to participate in the time trial, because, at the time, his “handbike” was lost.

Resenting the forced stop, due to lack of equipment, Flávio Pacheco was unable to keep up with the best in the 61,6 kilometers of this Saturday's race for the H4 class. The Portuguese was ranked tenth, one lap behind the best.

The gold medal travels to Austria, in the luggage of Thomas Frühwirth. Who gave him more fight was the French Mathieu Bosredon, 22 seconds away. The third place was the Polish Rafal Wilk, already distant 3m10s.

The Portuguese participation in this round of the World Cup ends this Sunday. Bernardo Vieira, in C1, and Telmo Pinão, in C2, leave at 13:00 for their respective long distance races, which will also cover 61,6 kilometres.
