Government recommends increasing water tariff for large domestic consumers

The government will also recommend restrictions on the use of water, such as the temporary suspension of street washing or the use of swimming pools.

The Government recommends that municipalities increase the water tariff for large domestic consumers, during the period of “greater severity of drought”, announced Duarte Cordeiro, Minister of the Environment, at a press conference this Wednesday.

The measure is recommended to 43 municipalities, the most affected by the drought, and should be applied in the third tier, that is, to consumptions greater than 15 cubic meters.

Duarte Cordeiro explained that the tariff increase is intended for the 43 municipalities with less water, adding that “nothing prevents other” municipalities from doing so. “I would recommend this measure to any municipality in the country,” he said.
