Unemployment halved in Algarve, but rose a little in Alentejo

In Alentejo, there was an increase compared to the end of June, but not compared to the previous year

The Algarve was the region of the country where registered unemployment dropped the most, in July, compared to the same month of 2021, with a decrease of 52,7%. The Alentejo, in turn, despite registering fewer unemployed people than a year ago, was the only region in the country where the number of people registered at the Instituto do Emprego da Formação Profissional increased, although little, according to the most recent data made available by this entity, referring to to the month of July.

The Alentejo was, moreover, the only region at the national level to have an increase in the number of subscribers, from June to July, and, even so, it was not very significant: 134 more unemployed compared to the end of the previous month (+1,1 ,XNUMX%).

With regard to the variation in unemployment in the country, from one year to the next, it decreased in all regions.

According to these figures, the Algarve region had, at the end of July, 8478 registered unemployed people – in the previous year there were 17.932.

The Alentejo, despite the increase in unemployed people from one month to the next, to a total of 12.268, continues to be the second region in the country with the fewest registered people, followed by the Centre, with 36.770, Lisbon and the Tagus Valley, with 95.917 and the North with 107.751.

In total, at the end of July, there were 277.466 registered in the IEFP in Portugal, only 31% of these in the Algarve.

 

 

Compared to the end of June, when there were 9782 registered in the Algarve (3,5% of the national total), in July, there was the biggest drop in unemployment registered in the country (13,3%).

This drop in the number of unemployed registered in the Algarve is related to recruitment for the high season in areas linked to tourism.

 

 

Even so, the Algarve is the region of the country with the fewest job offers, a total of 1856, 8,7% of the national total.

In Alentejo, the second region with the lowest number of job offers, there were 2.224 jobs available at the end of July. In Lisbon and the Tagus Valley, the value rises to 8.260.

By municipality, Portimão is the Algarve municipality with the highest number of registered unemployed (1580), followed by Faro (1168) and Loulé (1103).

Conversely, Alcoutim (30), Vila do Bispo (67) and Aljezur (94) are the municipalities with the fewest people looking for work.
