Collision between two vessels in Ria Formosa injures two young women

The victims were transported, one of them in a serious condition, to a hospital.

Two young women, aged 17 and 18, were injured following a collision between a maritime taxi and a pleasure boat, with three people on board, which took place last night in Ria Formosa, on the Olhão channel.

According to the National Maritime Authority, the alert was received at 21:45 pm, through the Lisbon Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Center (MRCC Lisboa), informing about the collision between two vessels in the Olhão da Ria Formosa channel, and was immediately elements of the local Command of the Maritime Police of Olhão were sent to the location.

Upon arrival, it was found that the three crew members of the pleasure craft, three young people aged between 17 and 18, had been rescued by a nearby maritime taxi that transported them to the passenger pier in Olhão, where an ambulance and a Medical Emergency and Resuscitation Vehicle (VMER) from INEM were waiting.

Two of the victims were assisted by INEM elements, being then transported, one of them in a serious condition, to a hospital unit.

The pleasure boat ended up being partially submerged, and was later towed to the fishing port of the Culatra nucleus.

The Maritime Police Psychology Office has been activated and is providing support to the victims' families.

The local command of the Olhão Maritime Police took care of the incident.
