Ana Varges Gomes, chairman of the Board of Directors of the Centro Hospitalar Universitário do Algarve (CHUA), and Paulo Águas, rector of the University of the Algarve, met this Thursday, August 4, and CHUA reiterated its «complete availability to continue to receive the students of the Integrated Master of Medicine (MIM)».

This meeting was already «previously scheduled», but the recent controversy involving an open letter from MIM students was also addressed – and which has already taken Isabel Palmeirim, director of the course and of the Faculty of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, to ask for her resignation.

In a statement, CHUA says that “in this academic year, as in the last 12 years, the monitors are ready to teach classes, in a clinical-surgical environment, in the various specialties to dozens of students from the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Algarve. , without any limitation or intercurrence, even considering the new valences and innovative equipment now available».

The Centro Hospitalar Universitário do Algarve also refers to the «long history of partnerships and joint contributions to science», of both entities, «with regard to scientific research, clinical teaching and in projects of strategic interest».

O Sul Informação has been trying to talk to medical students, but so far without success. Anyway, tonight there should be a plenary of students, via online platform, since many of them are already on vacation. From there, a joint and official position of the students should emerge.
