Álvaro Araújo, mayor of Vila Real de Santo António, asked, this Thursday, August 25, Isabel Oneto, Secretary of State for Internal Administration, for an increase in policing in the city's streets.

The mayor took advantage of the ceremony to commemorate the 135th anniversary of the command of Faro of the PSP, which took place at the António Aleixo Cultural Center, in VRSA, to make this request to the official.

“It is essential to increase policing on the streets, precisely to put into practice the aspects of prevention and education for citizenship, through advice and useful information that agents provide to people”, he said.

For Álvaro Araújo, «it is about promoting an inclusive attitude, which has long been advocated by the agents who patrol the streets».

Despite this request to the governor, the mayor emphasized the role that the Public Security Police has played for security in the municipality,

“All the words uttered will always be meager and insufficient to thank you for everything this police force does for us, from a human point of view”, he concluded.

The Mayor of VRSA mentioned, for example, the work that is done with children, in schools, or with the elderly.

And Isabel Oneto?

At the request of the Mayor, the Secretary of State for Internal Administration announced the reinforcement of the means available to the police structure in the Algarve and in the municipality in particular.

«It was thanks to the programming of infrastructure and equipment of the security forces that it was possible to program and execute the investment that we will soon inaugurate here [the new police station]», he concluded.

The official also promised very soon the arrival of new unmarked vehicles “and others” to the Algarve and the renovation of the Olhão and Portimão police stations.
