Increase in the water deposit of Sesmarias advances after favorable opinion from the Court of Auditors

The work represents a total investment of around two million euros and should be completed in August of next year.

At the end of July, the Court of Auditors issued a favorable opinion for carrying out the contract that will remodel the Sesmarias water reservoir and increase its reserve capacity, the Lagoa Chamber announced today.

According to the municipality, it is a work “long desired by the people of Lagos and essential for an efficient distribution and saving of water”. With this remodeling, the reservoir will increase more than ten times its capacity, from the current 600 cubic meters to 6500 cubic meters.

The work represents a total investment of around two million euros, with an expected duration of 12 months and should be completed in August of next year.

«The current capacity to reserve only 600 cubic meters of water means that that area of the municipality is very affected with water cuts, whenever there is a rupture in the main supply pipeline. The weak capacity to reserve water makes the tank easily empty and it takes a long time for it to have the capacity to supply the population again”, explains the Câmara de Lagoa, in a press release.

In addition to remodeling and increasing the capacity to store water, the work will then allow «to replace the old and degraded pipeline that supplies the Sesmarias Zone, which is one of the main supply pipelines in the municipality and has several ruptures throughout the year».

Thus, with the increase in the reserve capacity of the deposit and with the replacement of the main conduit that supplies that area of the municipality, the Municipality “will guarantee less water loss”.

«The remodeling of the water supply system, with all that this implies, namely the replacement of the main ducts in the municipality, is our priority. Reducing water losses in the municipality is a commitment I made with the Lagoans and we are working to fulfill it", said Luís Encarnação, mayor of Lagoa.
