The Algarve teams of Louletano-Aviludo and Atum-General /Tavira/AP Maria Nova Hotel will compete in the 83rd Tour of Portugal on the bicycle which starts this Thursday, August 4th. The race is shrouded in controversy due to searches and arrests in teams for alleged doping cases.

Louletano has Vicente Garcia de Mateos as its big bet for the competition.

The cyclist returned this year to the Algarve team, after representing Feirense, and has already shown scrolls in the Volta a Portugal: he was second in 2017 and 2018.

Louletano also has other names, such as Carlos Oyarzún and Tomas Contte, to be taken into account.

Atum-General/Tavira already has Alejandro Marque in its ranks. The 40-year-old Spanish cyclist, who won the Volta in 2013, says goodbye to the roads this year.

The objective of the Algarve team is to get the podium, assumed Vidal Fitas, sports director, in statements to Rádio Renascença.

In addition to Marque, Tavira will feature cyclists such as David Livramento or the young Emanuel Duarte and Rafael Lourenço.

This edition of Volta a Portugal is surrounded by controversy. The W52/FC Porto, which has won the competition consecutively in recent years, was searched by the Judiciary Police and was suspended from cycling competitions by indication of the Anti-Doping Authority of Portugal.

This week, there were new searches, but to other teams that, according to Jornal de Notícias, are Rádio Popular-Paredes-Boavista, Efapel and Glassdrive-Q8-Anicolor.

The Tour of Portugal will last until the 15th of August.
