The World Youth Day will be celebrated in the Algarve, tomorrow, the 12th of August, with free activities for young people from 8 to 30 years old, at the Centro Náutico da Praia de Faro.

Between 9:00 and 19:00 there will be the Open Day of the Nautical Center of Faro, which includes nautical activities such as sailing, canoeing, windsurfing and stand up paddle, as well as beach games, dancing, entertainment and music.

On the same day and in the same place, at 17:00, there will be a conversation-debate on “intergenerational solidarity”, as a way of promoting awareness that it is necessary to take advantage of the potential of all generations.

At 20:00, the collective exhibition “Ouro sobre azul” will be inaugurated at the Regional Directorate of the Algarve of the IPDJ.

To end the day, Música JA will return, in festival mode, with Tiago Baioa, Peculiar and TDPG, who will be sponsored by the band Íris. The concert will take place on the Doca stage, in Faro, from 22:00 am.

The 12th of August was declared International Youth Day in 1999, following a recommendation resulting from the World Conference of Ministers Responsible for Youth, which took place in Portugal, in 1998. Since then, this day has been celebrated worldwide, highlighting the importance to implement strategies for the development of this population, which are positive and proactive, centered on their rights, open to diversity and oriented towards innovation, promoting opportunities and building aspirations.

The program to commemorate the International Youth Day, in the Algarve, is promoted by the Municipality of Faro, in partnership with the Algarve Regional Directorate of the Portuguese Institute for Sports and Youth, IP (IPDJ), the “Sê Mais Sê Melhor” Association, the CNJ (National Youth Council) and the FNAJ (National Federation of Youth Associations).
