Alejandro Marque, from Atum General/Tavira/AP Maria Nova Hotel, climbed to 5th overall in the 83rd Tour of Portugal in the ninth stage of the race, which took place today between Paredes and Mondim de Basto, with the iconic climb to Senhora da Graça.

The “Algarvian” cyclist had some mishaps in the stage and even tried to escape that was not successful, but ended up in fourth position.

Even so, the athlete from the Tavira team saw the top of the general table go “further”, since the group that won the stage included the Yellow Jersey Frederico Figueiredo and his teammates in Glassdrive/Q8/Anicolor António Carvalho – the winner of the stage – and Maurício Moreira, who occupy, respectively, the 4th and 2nd place in the general.

Marque is, in this way, 0h4min19sec from Frederico Figueiredo, after reaching the goal more than 40 seconds from the winning trio, which he pursued alone.

Delio Fernandez, from Atum General/Tavira/AP Maria Nova Hotel, and Jesus Del Pino, from Aviludo/Louletano/Loulé Concelho, remain, respectively, in 7th and 8th place in the general ranking, after this stage.

These two athletes also stood out in today's demanding stage,

Tomorrow, Monday, the 15th, the 83rd Volta a Portugal ends with an 18,6 kilometer time trial between Porto and Vila Nova de Gaia.
