Alcoutim contributes 4262 euros to the maintenance of Via Algarviana

The Alcoutim Chamber will give 4262 euros to the Almargem association, to help it meet the management and maintenance costs of Via Algarviana.

The allocation of this annual subsidy was approved at the last executive meeting. The support given by Alcoutim is part of a broader effort, undertaken by the 13 Algarve municipalities that are crossed by this Great Pedestrian Route, which are partners in the Via Algarviana project.

With this measure, the Alcoutim Chamber, «with the other partners, continues to make efforts to define and implement a management model that guarantees the sustainability of the project in the medium and long term, given its strategic importance as an alternative tourist product for the region. offer in the region, especially in the low season'.

«This is an important project to affirm the Algarve in general and the Serra Algarvia in particular as a nature tourism destination. Via Algarviana has contributed to the promotion of accommodation and restaurant services, bringing more and more visitors, Portuguese and foreigners, to our territory», according to Osvaldo Gonçalves, president of the Alcoutim Chamber.

Via Algarviana is a Great Pedestrian Route (GR13) that connects Alcoutim to Cabo de S. Vicente. Created in 2006, it has 300 kilometers, divided into 14 sectors, covering the Algarve's Low Density territories. In addition to this main axis of the Great Route, the Via Algarviana includes a network of complementary infrastructures (small routes and connections), crossing a total of 13 municipalities (Alcoutim, Albufeira, Aljezur, Castro Marim, Lagoa, Lagos, Loulé, Monchique, Portimão, São Brás de Alportel, Silves, Tavira and Vila do Bispo).
