Ukraine’s “Still Freedom” is the subject of an exhibition at the Costume Museum

The exhibition is composed of photographs, texts, objects and sounds that refer to «the endless struggle of this people for their freedom and self-determination»

Showing solidarity with the Ukrainian people through creativity is the objective of the exhibition “Still Freedom”, which will be on display at the Museu do Traje de São Brás de Alportel until the end of December.

The exhibition is the result of an initiative by the Ukrainian community of the Algarve, «actively participated by all those who feel solidarity with the Ukrainian people», and is composed of photographs, texts, objects and sounds that refer to «the endless struggle of this people for their freedom and self-determination'.

According to Museu do Traje, the methodologies used in this exhibition “are still in an experimental phase”.

«The creative process begins without preconditions, in an empty space waiting to be populated. The objects are generally for everyday use and can be requisitioned by their owners at any time and returned to their origin. The involvement of people takes care of their replacement, almost always resulting in a purification of previous expository messages», he describes.

«This experience results in a continuous exhibition movement, permanently incomplete, fed by the reality that affects us daily. In this line of thought, it will not make sense to celebrate the “opening” of the exhibition, but it will be worth appreciating its conclusion, its closure, its dismantling/destruction. Ideally, this moment of catharsis should occur simultaneously with the conclusion of the Ukrainian nightmare.

Sérgio Morais (photography), Soffia Smetanko (design), Oleh Kraichyi, Yurii Stakhurskyi and Aline Gallash-Hall de Beuvink (texts), Ângelo Gonçalves (installation), Grupo Jasmim and Oksana Bilusyak (sounds), Veniamin Kovalchuk and Olga Vintoniak (organization community and clothing) are the participants in the show.
