450 sailors from 50 countries compete in the sailing world in Vilamoura

More than 450 sailors from 50 countries will compete at the Vilamoura Marina in the World Sailing Championships of the ILCA 4 and ILCA U21 laser classes from Saturday, the 13th, until the 20th of August.

This will be, according to Vilamoura Sailing, which organizes the competition, «the biggest world class ever held».

According to Isolete Correia, administrator of the Vilamoura Marina, «hosting this world event is a source of pride and a great responsibility, as we maintain the mission of providing the best conditions for athletes and their technical teams, as well as earning the national recognition and international experience that Marina de Vilamoura has conquered, demonstrating the rigor and competence with which Portugal accommodates these events».

«The Algarve has contributed a lot to the growth in the number of major international sporting events and today we saw the numbers of this growth here at Vilamoura Marina. This means that we are on the right path”, said João Paulo Correia, Secretary of State for Youth and Sports, on a visit to the Vilamoura Sailing International Sailing Center on Wednesday.

The ILCA 4 and ILCA U21 Class World Championships that will take place in Vilamoura «reflect the investment that has been made so that the region has the best infrastructure that, combined with the unique navigation conditions, are suitable for all classes of sailing. , as well as the practice of other high competition sports», according to the organization.
