Ukraine in the spotlight at a photo exhibition in Albufeira

Exhibition opens next Friday, July 8

Ukraine will be featured in the arts in Albufeira from this Saturday, July 8th, through a photo exhibition and the exhibition of a docufilm.

The Associação Alegria do Leste, with the support of the Municipality of Albufeira and the Associação Anjos da Misericórdia, organizes an exhibition and the screening of a film, with a view to highlighting the history and culture of the Ukrainians.

The event starts at 18:00 pm on the 8th, with the inauguration of the photographic exhibition by Sérgio Morais entitled “Diaspora of the people without fear”, at the João Bailote Municipal Gallery – an exhibition that involves more than 200 participants.

The portraits captured in «the neo-baroque environment of chiaro-escuro capture love, strength, courage, pain, hope, faith and beauty, characteristics that unite Ukrainians and the various descendants of this diaspora in Portugal», mentions the photographer in the exhibition catalogue, cited in a press release.

The exhibition will be open until the 5th of August, from Monday to Saturday, between 9:30 am and 12:30 pm and 13:30 pm and 17:30 pm.

In a second moment, at 19:00, Kateryna Strelchenko presents, at the Municipal Auditorium of Albufeira, the documentary film, “Oles Honchar – The word as a weapon”.

The docufilm tells the life of Oles Terentiyovych Honchar, World War II soldier and award-winning Ukrainian writer, who made the word a weapon in the defense of his country's patriotic values.

The film features the performances of Anton Bazelinsky, Dmitry Pankov and Oleg Oleksishin in the main roles, and will be screened after a historical contextualization made by the Ukrainian director, Kateryna Strelchenko.

Admission is free, subject to room capacity.
