Silves welcomes students from Harvard University

Questions of water and its uses are at the base of research

Two students from Harvard University, in the United States of America, will spend fifteen days in Silves, where they will be welcomed by the Municipality.

During this period, the students will develop a research work, «exploring how local and international communities can enjoy, in a more integrated way, the region's water heritage - with reference to the Rodete and Valentim mills - through a more holistic experience of the surrounding landscape'.

«Aware that the Arade, its banks and the connection to the city of Silves are a strategic municipal design of heritage, landscape and identity enhancement, this project fits in with the objective of returning the river and its banks to the populations, bringing them closer to as», emphasizes the City Council of Silves.

“It is in this context that the issue of territorial centrality and the potential for sustainable development so intrinsically related to the identity, richness and diversity of this Geopark territory embraced by Arade and that the Municipality of Silves intends to project, is taken up again”, adds the municipality.

The stay of the two young students comes from a partnership between the Câmara de Silves and the Universities of Harvard and the Algarve.
