Serra de São Brás de Alportel welcomes visitors for a different vacation

On the weekend of August 6th and 7th

The “Aldeias de Portugal” invite all those interested to go to Cabeça do Velho, in the Serra de São Brás de Alportel, on the weekend of August 6th and 7th, for a mini-vacation in the countryside.

During these days, there will be contact with nature, culture, gastronomy, traditional knowledge and lots of music.

The network of Aldeias de Portugal has as its main objective «stimulating the sustainable development and promotion of rural territories, through the participation of the inhabitants of the Villages in the construction and promotion of a program to safeguard and enhance the village, focused on the different local heritage: built , natural and immaterial», emphasizes the In Loco association.

On the 6th, the “Férias na Aldeia” begins at 16:30 pm with a “Picnic in the Shadow” next to one of the streams of this mountain range. After the reception, participants are invited to take a short and leisurely walking tour “Entre Vales, Fontes e Memórias da Serra do Caldeirão”, accompanied by local people who will take them to the venue of the 30th “Summer Festival of Cabeça do Velho”. ” for an activity to discover the local gastronomy, the “Jante Connosco”, in a family and festive atmosphere where you will get to know the flavors and knowledge of the typical food of the Serra.

The party continues into the night with a traditional dance. 

The August 7th program starts at 9am with a “mountain breakfast”. The activities continue through the cork oak grove, in order to make known “where cork comes from and where it goes” on a guided tour. At the end of this tour, visitors will be able to participate in a workshop where they will “play their hands on cork”.

In addition, at the place of Lajes, two local cooks are waiting for the guests, for a “Lunch with us”, to end these “Vérias na Aldeia” with a moment of sharing smells and flavors.

Accommodation is free with the possibility of camping and caravanning on the two days of the Festival at the Clube Cabeça do Velho Football Club with access to toilets and changing rooms.

As for prices, the weekend package for adults is 35 euros, the weekend package for children from 6 to 11 years old is 20 euros, the weekend package for children up to 5 years is free, one day for adults it is 15 euros (does not include the Serrano breakfast) and one day for children is 10 euros (does not include the Serrano breakfast).

The “Aldeias de Portugal” initiative is promoted by the Village Tourism Association (ATA), made up of several Local Development Associations from north to south of Portugal, which joined together in a cooperation effort around the idea of ​​boosting the development and promotion of rural territories, safeguarding the lifestyle of the villages of Portugal.
