The PSD/Algarve spoke out this Wednesday, 6 July, on the resignation of the clinical director of the Center for Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation of the South (CMR Sul), referring that the center “is going through the worst crisis ever” .

The situation became public after this Sunday, July 3, the Associação Movimento Determinante (Association of citizens with disabilities, their caregivers and friends) announced that Arminda Lopes, in office for two months, resigned after the Centro Hospitalar Universitário do Algarve (CHUA) did not comply with the agreed conditions.

«It saddens everyone who knows or has benefited from CMR Sul that this institution, once of excellence, is, these days, experiencing such a dark moment. This center provides life-saving care, which opens horizons of hope, and the pathologies it responds to have a very narrow therapeutic window. Either they take place in their own time or the damage becomes irreversible», says Cristóvão Norte, president of PSD Algarve.

In a note sent to the newsroom, the party also emphasizes that “those who have a stroke, for example, cannot wait months to start recovery, among many other cases” and also points out responsibilities to the Government.

«When he decided to integrate CMR Sul into CHUA, he promised that he would turn the former into an integrated responsibility center, a modality that offers greater management autonomy and would guarantee the agility that the center's management lacks. Four years have passed and nothing has been done, the degradation of the CMR Sul has increased», continues Cristóvão Norte.

Rui Silva, president of the PSD of São Brás de Alportel, also says that this instability in the South CMR is unacceptable.

«We do not accept that one of the most important medical and physical rehabilitation units in the country be considered by CHUA as an extension of the Hospital de Faro(…) We are facing a situation where the interests of the South CMR are not a priority for the CHUA, and as such an internal audit of the South CMR is needed, which allows evaluating the current functioning of this unit», he stressed.

The PSD Algarve now says it has asked its deputies to the Assembly of the Republic, Luís Gomes, Rui Cristina and Ofélia Ramos, to request that a series of hearings be held in order to pressure the Government to act urgently on this important matter.
