The Lagos Museum Center of the National Railway Museum will finally be the object of a fundamental intervention, so that it can reopen to the public. For this, on the 30th of July, the 100th anniversary of the arrival of the train for the first time at the Algarve city station, a Shared Management Protocol will be signed between the Municipality and Museum of Lagos and the Railway Museum. This will be one of the highlights of the two-day celebrations of this ephemeris.

A colloquium, the inauguration of an evocative sculpture of this ephemeris and the exhibition of a photo-documentary exhibition are other initiatives that will take place, on the 29th and 30th of July, as part of the program commemorating the Centenary of the Arrival of the Train to Lagos. .

Remembering the arrival of the train in Lagos, 100 years ago, its actors and understanding the respective social, political and economic context is one of the objectives of this initiative by the municipality.

The program starts on Friday, the 29th, at the Centro Cultural de Lagos, with the colloquium “100 Years of the Arrival of the Train to Lagos ― past, present and future”, an event that counts with the participation of renowned speakers, in the field of historical research, mobility and transport, along with leading figures from the sector's key entities.

The following day, attention turned to Lagos Railway Station and the reception on arrival of the commemorative train journey, which is scheduled to take place at the end of the morning, with musical entertainment in charge of the Sociedade Filarmónica Lacobrigense 1.º de Maio and the presence of the Folkloric and Ethnographic Rancho of Odiáxere.

The moment will then be perpetuated with the inauguration of a new piece of public art to mark the urban landscape of the city.

In the afternoon, the stage for the celebrations will once again be the Centro Cultural de Lagos, which will host the signing ceremony of the Shared Management Protocol of the Museum Center of Lagos of the National Railway Museum, the presentation of commemorative editions (medal and philatelic pieces), and the inauguration of the photo-documentary exhibition “Lagos, the last stop”.

The theme is also the motto of the challenge launched by the municipality to the confectioners for the works to be presented at the 33rd Feira Concurso Arte Doce, as well as the concept around which the cultural association “Questão Repetida” developed two artistic creations that will can be enjoyed in public spaces in the city.
