Crawler machine operators receive training in Silves to help fight fires

Action is promoted by the Regional Command of Emergency and Civil Protection

More than 50 operators of crawler machines from the municipalities, as well as private providers, are participating in an operational training action, in Silves, «at the moment when the most expressive level of commitment of the Special Rural Fire Fighting Device of the Algarve, which runs from the 1st of July to the 30th of September».

The elements participating in this training, promoted by the Regional Emergency and Civil Protection Command (CREPC) of the Algarve, with the support of the Municipality of Silves, were appointed by the Municipal Civil Protection Services (SMPC) and by the Institute for the Conservation of Nature and Forests (ICNF).

According to CREPC, «in the morning, a theoretical session at the Municipal Library dealt with the core themes of the commitment of these fundamental means in the effort of operational response, namely with regard to the organization of Theaters of Operations, Communications and Security Protocols during combat, the techniques and intervention capabilities of this complementary means, in full articulation with all the forces that contribute to the rapid extinction of rural fires'.

In the afternoon, practical exercises began in the field using machinery kindly provided by the SMPC of Silves and ICNF.

The Algarve Regional Operations Plan for this theme «establishes the mechanisms for the mobilization and logistical and operational support of these technical means, under the coordination of the Tactical Team for the Engagement of Track Machines (ETEMR)».
