Loulé receives a visit from the President of the Republic of Cape Verde

Cape Verdean community in this county is one of the most numerous in Portugal

José Maria Neves, President of the Republic of Cape Verde, will visit the city of Loulé next Saturday, July 30, as part of his first State visit to Portugal.

With the diaspora as one of the purposes of his agenda, the Head of State will come to Loulé to contact the Cape Verdean community of this county, one of the most numerous in Portugal.

At 15:00 pm, José Maria Neves is received by the mayor Vítor Aleixo for a greeting session, in the Main Hall of the Town Hall. At 15:20 pm, the delegation visits the Islamic Baths of Loulé, a museum space recently opened.

The visit to the city will have as its high point the meeting with the Cape Verdean community of Loulé, at the Parish Center, at 16:00.

In the entourage accompanying José Maria Neves, are the First Lady Débora Carvalho, the Minister of Communities Jorge Santos, the Cape Verde ambassador to Portugal, Eurico Monteiro, and also Herménio Fernandes, president of the Cape Verde Municipalities Association, among other elements.

The Loulé City Council emphasizes that «the strong ties that unite Loulé and Cape Verde go back more than half a century, with the establishment of the first Cape Verdeans, workers and workers, in this municipality. The twinning in 1999 with the municipality of Boa Vista further strengthened this friendship between the two peoples».

One of the great names of Portuguese music today, Dino D'Santiago, was born in Quarteira, the son of parents from Cape Verde, a country with which the artist maintains close ties.
