The winners of the Loulé Artist Residencies are already known

In the categories of music, dance, theater and art for Children/Youth

The winners of the Loulé Artist Residency Grant 2022, projects that were selected by a jury made up of several specialists in the areas of music, dance, theater and art for Children/Youth are already known. 

In Art for Childhood/Youth, the winning project was “Treasure Island – by Robert Stevenson”, by Ana Isabel Sousa and David Correia.

Here, the main characters of the classic of literature will be in the feminine, to «promote gender equality». In addition, the play also aims to «stimulate a taste for adventure and nature, including theatrical games, dance and choreographed changes of scenery», says Loulé City Council in a press release.

David Correia is an actor and worked with Carlos Avilez in the show “Much Barulho Por Nada”, at the Experimental Theater in Cascais. In addition to theater, he has made telenovelas and cinema, with the film “Les Grandes Ondes de Abril”.

Actress Ana Isabel Sousa was part of the show “Grandes Musicais” directed by Henrique Feist and “Woyzeck”; she has worked with Carlos Avillez, João Lagarto and Cecília Sousa at Teatro da Trindade and Comuna Teatro and has performed in school intervention shows with Mariana Monteiro and Rita Redshoes. In television, she participated in projects such as A Teia (TVI), Bem Me Quer (TVI) and Vanda (SPI and Legendary Films). Currently, she is the artistic director of the Gato Escaldado Theater Company.

In Dança, the winning entry was “A Human Map to Cure the Ends of the World”, by Sara Martins.

This is a project that begins with the investigation of healing practices – past and present – ​​in the municipality of Loulé and which aims to «create a living collective space in which independent artists develop regular meetings throughout 2022/23, finding places of intervention in the space public".

Sara Martins is a dancer, graduated in Dance and has been developing her career in dance teaching and art education since 2014. As a creator, she developed two solos “Il faut” (2012, Brussels, BE) and “Meet-ing” (2014). , Wittenberg, ALE). As an interpreter, she worked with Margarida Bettencourt, Cyril Lamon, Ana Borges, Roberto and Neusa Dias.

He is currently part of the PUZZLE project, directed by João de Brito and DANCIBERIA, a project between dance professionals in the Algarve – Alentejo – Andalusia regions.

At the Theater, “Virgínias”, by Marlene Barreto, was the winning project. The initiative is based on questions raised by the writer Virginia Woolf in 1929 about the asymmetries between the male and female universes, in terms of literature (and dramaturgy).

Marlene Barreto, born in Loulé, is an actress and playwright, graduated in Social and Cultural Communication from Universidade Católica Portuguesa and in Performing Arts from CAL – Rio de Janeiro.

The actress and playwright worked, among others, with Fátima Toledo, Sérgio Penna, Thiago Greco and Luís António Rocha. She is the author of “Reflexo”, a text staged in 2017 by Lucinda Loureiro and of “Aquário” (which was on stage at Cineteatro Louletano) with staging and interpretation of her own.

As an actress, in television, she has worked as an actress and presenter, having passed through the programs “5 para a Meia-Noite” (RTP1) and “Deluxe” (TVI) and in soap operas such as “Beijo do Escorpião” (TVI), “Jardins Proibidos” (TVI) and “Alma e Coração” (SIC), among others. Currently, she is the artistic director of the company Casulo – Artes Performativas e Audiovisuais.

Finally, in the area of ​​music, Zazu Lab, led by Pedro Almeida, was the winning project – a sextet of original music that transports the viewer to a utopian coexistence of tribal elements with the urban environment.

Pedro Almeida, 24 years old, was born in Lisbon and holds a degree in Musical Sciences from NOVA-FCSH. From 2015 to 2019 he studied drums at Escola de Jazz Luiz Villas-Boas. He studied with musicians such as Bruno Pernadas, Gonçalo Marques and Bernardo Moreira.

The young man was part of the international project Itinerant Musical Composition Classes (IMCC) which has already had two artistic residencies in Bourges and Paris and is the founder of the bands Ossos D'Ouvido and Zazu Lab.

The panel of judges responsible for the choices was made up of Paulo Silva, artistic programmer of Cineteatro Louletano and Festival MED, Ricardo Pinto, head of the Events and Cineteatro Division, pianist and composer Mário Laginha, Marco Paiva, actor, director and artistic director from Companhia Terra Amarela, Joana Castro, choreographer and
performer and Susana Menezes, Artistic Director of LU.CA – Teatro Luís de Camões.
