ABC researcher distinguished in Germany with award for best doctoral thesis

Thesis is entitled “Molecular mechanisms of memory formation and persistence in the adult and aged brain”

David Brito, researcher at the Algarve Biomedical Center Research Institute (ABC-RI) at the University of Algarve, was distinguished with the “Foundation BrainAid IZN Dissertation Award 2022”, awarded by the BrainAid Foundation (Heidelberg, Germany) to the best doctoral thesis. The award ceremony took place on the 19th of July in Kloster Schöntal, Germany.

The award aims to distinguish the best research work carried out within a consortium of 59 laboratories at the universities of Heidelberg and Mannheim, Max Planck Institute for Medical Research and DKFZ – The Interdisciplinary Center for Neurosciences (IZN).

His doctoral thesis, entitled “Molecular mechanisms of memory formation and persistence in the adult and aged brain”, allowed the identification of three proteins involved in molecular memory processes, which may be relevant in a physiological context and in aging, but also in neurological diseases such as Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and Rett Syndrome.
