Fire in São Marcos da Serra forces evacuations

Fire has two active fronts

The fire that broke out on the afternoon of this Monday, July 25, at the site of Fica Bem (São Marcos da Serra) already forced to evacuate localities for prevention.

A source from the Algarve Regional Command for Civil Protection, told the Sul Informação that the GNR has already been asked to evacuate the sites of Alcarias Novas, Corte Peral, Chaminé, Boião and Casas Velhas that have “dispersed housing”.

The fire has two active fronts: one to evolve to the Southeast and the other to the South.

According to the same source, having “low and medium voltage lines in the theater of operations has been a challenge”.

The «difficult access», combined with «temperatures above 35 degrees and low humanity», are another problem.

In statements to the Sul Informação, Rosa Palma, mayor of Silves, also expressed concern about the situation, namely “due to the wind”.

In the theater of operations are 328 operational, supported by 94 vehicles, and 9 air assets.
