There are CHUA doctors and nurses who have already agreed to exchange holidays for compensation

«In the summer, there is always an addition, but this year, we have had even more people than usual», explained Paulo Neves

There have already been nurses and some doctors accepting the proposal of the Centro Hospitalar Universitário do Algarve (CHUA) to postpone the holidays, if they were scheduled until 30 September, to give response to increased demand during the summer. In return, the administration will pay them triple for the days they work.

The guarantee was given to the Sul Informação by Paulo Neves, member of the Board of Directors of CHUA.

"The deadline ends on Tuesday and, so far, we have had more nurses than doctors to accept," he said.

This CHUA proposal, which was revealed this Friday, July 22, by Jornal de Notícias, comes at a time when there has been a «great increase in demand for our emergencies».

«In the summer, there is always an addition, but this year, we have had even more people than usual», explained Paulo Neves.

António Lacerda Sales, Secretary of State for Health, also commented on this decision by the CHUA, saying that it happened “in what is the management autonomy” of the Board of Directors.

“CHUA decided to ask and ask professionals, those who had holidays until 30 September, if they intended to eventually suspend or change these holidays, without prejudice to taking them later, being able to work with a salary triple what they normally enjoy”, he said. , in statements to journalists, in Alpiarça.

The official stressed that he only accepts… whoever wants to: «there will be professionals who will say yes and others who will say no», he said.

Holidays, according to the CHUA proposal, can be rescheduled until April 30, 2023.
