Gonçalo Sousa Quinteto, Jessica Pina and Beatriz Nunes Trio “give” Jazz to Tavira

Between the 21st and 23rd of July

Gonçalo Sousa Quinteto, Jéssica Pina and Beatriz Nunes Trio are the protagonists of another edition of Jazz in Tavira, which will take place from the 21st to the 23rd of July, in Jardim do Coreto, always at 22:00.

On the 21st, Gonçalo Sousa Quinteto presents the project “New Construction” / “A smile for Toots”.

“Nova Construção” is an original project that consists of a “crossing between improvised music, jazz, concert music and “world music””.

«There is a demand for the sound of “Portuguese jazz”, a legacy of great national figures such as António Pinho Vargas, Mário Laginha, João Paulo Esteves da Silva or Bernardo Sassetti», according to the Chamber of Tavira.

The concert will also serve as a tribute to Toots Thielemans, on the centenary of this musician.

The quintet is formed by Gonçalo Sousa (harmonic, musical direction and composition), Cláudio Alves (guitar and vocals), João Paulo Esteves da Silva (piano), Mário Franco (double bass)
and Diogo Alexandre (drums).

On the 22nd, Jéssica Pina will take the stage to present the “Vento Novo” project.

The Portuguese trumpeter, who was invited by Madonna to join the MADAME X tour, will show her new work, which consists of four tracks, «where the artist takes a risk in the composition and texts sung by herself. From the EP, the breakthrough theme "Vento Novo" was already known and, now, it's time for "Romeu", a song for which the video also has the signature of João Pedro Moreira, responsible for videos of artists such as Dino D` Santiago, Branko, Regula, Rita Vian, Teresinha Landeiro, among others».

On the 23rd of July, it is the turn of Beatriz Nunes Trio to present the first album of this new trio that brings together Beatriz Nunes, Paula Sousa and André Rosinha, entitled “À Espera do Futuro”.

«With previous works in their own name recognized by the critics and the public, the three musicians now come together in a disc of unpublished compositions by the singer, the pianist and the bass player. The three musicians found their affinity in jazz, in the tradition of classical music and Portuguese regional music», concludes the municipality.
