Sagres Bird Watching Festival already has a date

Full program will be announced within a month

The Bird Watching & Nature Activities Festival will return to Sagres between the 1st and 5th of October, the event organizers revealed today, who will reveal the event's program on the 1st of August and begin accepting entries on the first day of September.

For now, in addition to the dates of the event, the Municipality of Vila do Bispo, which organizes the festival together with the Portuguese Society for the Study of Birds (SPEA) and the Almargem Association, also reveals who will be the «poster star» this year: the alcatraz.

This species of bird is one of those that fly over the Algarve in October, on its migratory route towards the territories where they will spend the winter, and which, «on a good day, can be seen by the hundreds passing by Cabo de São Vicente».

«This species, easily recognizable by its long white wings and pointed beak, is a natural diver and can reach 40 meters in depth in the spectacular entries it makes in the water, to catch the fish it feeds on», describes the Câmara de Vila. of the Bishop.

In addition to observing this and other thousands of birds that pass through that area of ​​the Algarve at the beginning of October, the public can count on «a program full of activities, most of which are free to participate, for all ages and interests that will include, among others , the usual bird watching and ringing sessions, field trips, lectures and educational workshops, walks, boat trips, guided tours and mini-courses».
