It is «with all the emotion, all the determination and all the motivation» that Feira da Serra returns to São Brás de Alportel, from the 28th to the 31st of July. After a two-year break, the event returns to the EB 2,3 Bernardo Passos School, with a new stage dedicated to youth, the medronho as a special guest and even… a beach bar.

Gastronomy, music and handicrafts are once again three of the highlights of Feira da Serra, which was presented at a press conference this Thursday, 21 July.

One of the great innovations is the creation of the new Youth Stage, which will introduce young talents from the Algarve.

On this stage, promoted in partnership with the Instituto Português do Desporto e da Juventude, names such as Mateus Verde (finalist of the 2019 and 2020 editions of the “Música JA” competition) will pass on the first day, and Kristoman & RealPunch, on Saturday, 20.

This will be, moreover, a Feira da Serra with a strong involvement of youth: this year, the event has more than 80 young volunteers, aged between 14 and 25 – a record number.

This expresses, in the opinion of Marlene Guerreiro, vice-president of the Chamber of São Brás de Alportel, the «vitality of Feira da Serra», which the people of São Paulo are «very proud of».

Another novelty this year is a «bigger bet» on the ecological issue, allied to art.

On the first day of the event, a work will be inaugurated, coordinated by the Algarve artist Joana Rocha, based on plastic bottles that have been worked on.

Added to this is the return of reusable cups.

As usual, all editions of Feira da Serra have a special guest: this year, the choice was for the medronho.

Thus, at Sítio do Medronho and at Palco Sabores, there will be the presentation of several projects related to this product, which is one of the ex libris of the Algarve.

«The medronho is something of ours, from the Algarve mountains, which has many uses. It is a very resilient shrub, even in fires, and is an extremely important product for the economy of the interior and the Algarve", said Vítor Guerreiro, mayor of São Brás de Alportel, in statements to journalists.

Around the enclosure, there will also be no shortage of producers selling medronho.

One of the new spaces this year is the “Mar da Serra” because «innovating tradition is really Praia da Feira da Serra».

In this location, there will be a beach bar so that people can discover «good products from the Algarve» and teach them to «respect the ocean».

According to Vítor Guerreiro, the City Council is «very motivated» with the return of what is the great event in São Brás de Alportel.

“We believe we can expect four nights of great emotions. We feel the great motivation and enthusiasm of our population to set up the Feira da Serra again », he considered.

This is because «this is an event with a soul because every São Paulo citizen gives a little bit of himself: the whole assembly, the dynamics is done by our community, by the city council employees, volunteers, associative movement», he added.

In terms of music, this year's lineup features DAMA, on Thursday, the 28th, followed by the tribute to Queen (29), Carlão (30) and Bonga (31).

The Feira da Serra will have a total of 18 spaces (Sítio do Medronho, Aldeia Serrana, Meeting of Flavors, Meeting of Knowledge, Meeting of Crafts, Riding Arena, Sítio dos Animals, Sítio dos Curiosities, Praça do Município, Main Stage, Stage Sonoridades, Flavors Stage, The Market goes to the Fair, Sítio do Vinho, Serra and Barrocal Gardens, Praça da Diversão, Stage Jovem and Mar da Serra).

This year the budget for Feira da Serra, which has a record number of partners and sponsors, is around 300 thousand euros.

«Feira da Serra is an event with direct return on these days, but also throughout the year because many people return to São Brás de Alportel to buy the products they know. This is an important investment in the economy, in people, in crafts and the municipality has this obligation», considered the mayor Vítor Guerreiro.

“Above all, after a two-year break, the emotion is great for us to return to an event like this and what we want is for those who visit us to return the next day”, he concluded.

Feira da Serra always opens at 19pm. Tickets cost 00 euros (individual daily), but you can buy a four-day ticket for 4,5 euros. There is also the family ticket modality, for 14 euros.
