A show that portrays “structural issues” performed by a cast that shows that “age is a convention” is what you can expect from “Transatlântico”, a co-production between Teatro do Eléctrico and Companhia Maior, which premieres this Friday. , June 8, at Cineteatro Louletano.

On stage, the actors over 60 are joined by young people responsible for the musical part, which, in this play, is complemented by comedy and the «theater of the absurd».

«The proposal was to work from the text «Titanic» by Christopher Durang, whose adaptation was made by me. The text is crazy, a very luminous delirium, sometimes grotesque, a very unbalanced comedy, with dark humor that, at the same time, is light. I think that this balance that is achieved from the imbalance is a very difficult thing to work in comedy and, therefore, a challenge», explained Ricardo Neves-Neves, to the Sul Informação, after the press rehearsal yesterday afternoon.

According to the director, this show is «a metaphor for life, for the country, for the city and for the family», talking about issues such as identity, the way in which the name or gender defines us, among others.

“This is a mood that causes a kind of short circuit in the brain. At the same time that the characters are childish, they are very erotic. The whole text seems superficial, but, after appreciating it, we realize that it portrays structural issues and deep problems of the human being, very related to the question of identity», continues Ricardo Neves-Neves, referring that, whoever goes to Cineteatro Louletano to attend, will take with him «a kind of melancholy thinking about what life is and the relationship between people».

This is the second exhibition of the play, which has also been shown at the Teatro de São Luiz, in Lisbon.

In the opinion of Maria Emília Castanheira, 70, one of the actresses, this is, however, a show that deserves to «travel around the country», «because it brings a wave of joy that people need».

After a life dedicated to the legal profession (but always with a burning passion for theater), Maria Emília now feels fulfilled.

“In spite of everything, I never stopped being a jurist who did theater. For some it was a compliment, for others it wasn't always so well regarded, but that didn't matter to me. Then, with the support of my family, who liked to see me do theater, I managed to retire early and, from then on, I didn't stop doing theater: I joined the 3+1, and then I arrived at Companhia Maior. I applied and stayed", she tells Sul Informação.

She has been with Companhia Maior for six years, she says that what led her to join the challenge was her interest in this «pioneer project».

According to the actress, the main objective is “to convey to the public that age is a convention”.

«As long as we have joy within us, we can overcome time, which is relentless, but we now have a maturity and a life experience that is an asset», he emphasizes, noting that, to young people, they also want to pass on hope for the future and encourage them to bet on what they like.

As for the «Transatlantic», he says he couldn't be happier with the result.

«Ricardo's work is to be commended, as he managed to integrate the Companhia Maior here with very talented young people and a friendship and artistic complicity has already been created between us, the older ones, and the younger ones, very strong, which is also noticeable in stage".

At the time of the premiere, the actress invites everyone to appear at Cineteatro Louletano.

“Everyone here is going to learn new things. On the part of the public, it will be as important for the older ones, who can review themselves, as for the younger ones, who can anticipate and understand that old age is not a loss of anything, it is, in fact, a continuous maturation», also says Ricardo Neves-Neves.

Tickets for the show, which will be on stage today and tomorrow, July 8th and 9th, at 21:00 pm, can be purchased here

In addition to the play, this weekend will also be held the workshop “Singing the Major Age”, with Rita Carolina Silva, and a creative writing atelier, with Ricardo Neves-Neves.
