Roman sculpture will be “star” of Iberian encounter in Faro and Mértola

The Meeting of Roman Sculpture in Hispania, the largest event in the Iberian Peninsula on this topic, will take place in Faro and in Mértola between the 27th and 29th of October.

On the 27th and 28th of October, the works will take place at the Municipal Museum of Faro and at the University of Algarve's Penha Campus. On the 29th, it will be Mértola's turn to host the event.

The initiative, which is now in its 10th edition, but which is being held for the second time in Portugal, will count on some of the "greatest national and international experts in this area", according to the Chamber of Deputies. Faro.

The holding of this meeting in Faro and Mértola coincides «with the recent elevation to national treasures of some Roman busts found in Milreu and with the finding of an important sculptural set in Mértola, which makes the two Portuguese locations unavoidable references for peninsular Roman sculpture», he adds.

The event is organized by the Center for Studies and Archaeology, Arts and Heritage Sciences of the University of Algarve and the Mértola Archaeological Field, Center for Research and Studies in Fine Arts of the University of Lisbon, Municipal Museum of Faro, the Regional Directorate of Culture of the Algarve and the National Museum of Roman Art of Spain (Mérida).
