The excavations that are taking place at the site of Poço Antigo, northeast of the Fortress of Cacela Velha, will have an open day next Monday, July 11, from 9 am to 00 pm.

In this area, it will be possible to visit the ancient Islamic medieval quarter of Qastalla Darrag (XNUMXth-XNUMXrd centuries), and the subsequent necropolis of the first post-Reconquista Christian settlers (XNUMXth-XNUMXth centuries).

O Field School of Archeology returned this year to Cacela Velha for a project that began on the 20th of June and aims at «scientific research into the history of the inhabitants of Cacela and its territory between the Islamic Period, the Christian Conquest and the formation of the Kingdom of the Algarve , in the twelfth to fourteenth centuries”.
