APSI and GNR launch campaign “Drowning is quick and silent”

Drowning is the second leading cause of accidental death in children and young people.

The Association for the Promotion of Child Safety (APSI) and the National Republican Guard (GNR) have just launched the joint campaign “Drowning is silent and fast”, on the prevention of drowning in children and young people.

This year, APSI celebrates 20 years of these campaigns and launches the only publication, in Portugal, that portrays the problem, in the child and youth population: Report on Drowning of Children and Youth, 2002-2021, «which continues to demonstrate the need to continue raising awareness of what is the second leading cause of accidental death in these age groups», the association stresses in a press release.

With this partnership, APSI and GNR aim to “ensure a closer message and more incisive prevention, with the aim of promoting child safety, reinforcing advice and warnings to avoid this type of accident”.

Despite being a necessary campaign at all times of the year, it is in the summer that it is most relevant, so the GNR will intensify, from 15 July to 15 September, the implementation of awareness raising actions for the population, reinforcing awareness society to the problem of drowning children and young people in swimming pools and in natural environments.
