Pilot is only 9 years old

Algarve José Pedro Pinto, just 9 years old, won the fourth double round of the Toyota Karting Portuguese Championship at the Baltar track this weekend.

The pilot secured his second victory in the Cadet 4T category of the Portuguese Karting Toyota Championship, after winning the Easykart Trophy and having taken the podium in the Portuguese Karting Cup in 2021.

The young sportsman, born in Quarteira, secured second place in the qualifying heat and then was just 0,1s away from a place on the podium in the Final. On Sunday, José started from fifth place to the Final, after a penalty in the qualifying heat, the young Algarve did not give up and made four passes, winning the Final on Sunday in a brilliant way.

With these results, José Pedro Pinto is in second place in the Portuguese Karting Championship, behind the experienced Guilherme Morgado and in a good position to become national vice-champion.

«This is just my first full season in Karting and I had to discover the Baltar track, which has some curves similar to the Almancil track, where I started training», stated José Pedro Pinto.

“I adapted well and felt I had a great pace in Sunday's Final. I was overtaking my teammates and luckily I managed to win. I was very happy to take this cup to the Algarve », he continued.
