The Algarve is the region of the country, for the second consecutive month, with the least number of people enrolled in Employment Centres, according to the most recent data released by the Instituto do Emprego da Formação Profissional, referring to the month of June.

According to these figures, the Algarve region had, at the end of the sixth month of the year, only 9782 registered unemployed.

The Alentejo, with 12.268, is the second region in the country with the fewest subscribers, followed by the Center, with 37.349, Lisbon and Vale do Tejo, with 97.530 and the North with 108.642.

In total, at the end of June, there were 282.453 enrolled in the IEFP in Portugal, only 3,5% of these in the Algarve.

In relation to the end of May, when there were 12.032 registered in the Algarve (4,1% of the national total), in June there was a drop in registered unemployment of 18,7%, the highest in the country.

If the comparison is made with the same month last year, the drop is also very significant: 51,2% (-10.248 subscribers).

This drop in the number of unemployed registered in the Algarve is related to the recruitment for the high season in areas linked to tourism, taking into account that 2022, it is expected, may exceed the record numbers of 2019, in this sector.

If the Algarve stands out for the low number of unemployed registered in the Job Centers at a national level, it also stands out for the low number of job offers, taking into account that, at the end of June, there were only 1.833 jobs available in the IEFP data, 8,7% of the national total.

In Alentejo, the second region with the lowest number of job offers, there are 2.237 jobs available. In Lisbon and Vale do Tejo, the value amounts to 7.768.

By municipalities, Portimão is the Algarve municipality with the highest number of registered unemployed (1.794), followed by Loulé (1.379) and Faro (1.334)

Conversely, Alcoutim (29), Vila do Bispo (71) and Aljezur (106) are the municipalities with the fewest people looking for work.
