Albufeira organizes “Inclusive Holidays” to respond to families

Until September 2th

The Municipality of Albufeira is organizing, until the 2nd of September, a program of recreational and therapeutic activities for children and young people with special health needs.

The “Inclusive Holidays” are being attended by 14 participants who, throughout the week, from 9 am to 00 pm, benefit from a stimulating program that promotes their personal development, at the Fixed Traffic School, next to the Caliços Municipal Market,

The initiative is being put into practice for the third consecutive year by the Espaço Integrar team of the Social Action Division of the Municipality of Albufeira and was designed taking into account the «difficulty that families have during the months of July and August to take holidays or have financial resources to support the costs of summer camps or other activity programs for their children», the municipality says in a press release.

The experience was planned for the municipality's children and youth with developmental disorders, intellectual disability and autism. The program includes classes in capoeira, hip hop, cooking and swimming, a “cycling driving” course, gardening and horticultural maintenance activities, as well as moments of relaxation.

In addition to these practical activities, the 14 participants will also visit Paderne Castle, the sources of the Alte stream and Zoomarine.

“Programs like this are essential for a greater and better development of these children's abilities and skills. Offering them different moments where they can practice their autonomy is the way to have better health, feel included in the community and, above all, feel happier», says José Carlos Rolo, president of the Albufeira City Council.
