Agrupamento de Escolas de VRSA wins the men's Futsal champion at the FISEC Games

Portugal was represented by almost six dozen young athletes

The AE Vila Real de Santo António School Group team won 1st place in men's Futsal, at the FISEC Games 2022, which took place in the city of Klagenfurt (Austria), from 23 to 29 July.

The students from Vila Real de Santo António were champions, playing in the final with Austria, winning categorically by 9-2.

Young people from the Algarve were part of the group of almost six dozen students who represented Portuguese School Sports at the FISEC Games 2022.

Portugal was represented by 57 youngsters, distributed among 5 teams, namely:

Basketball (men), with AE Rocha Peixoto (CLDE Porto)
Basketball (female), with AE de Ponte de Lima (CLDE Viana do Castelo)
Futsal (men), with AE Vila Real de Santo António (DSR Algarve)
Volleyball (men), with AE Henrique Nogueira (CLDE OESTE)
Volleyball (female), with AE Madeira Torres (CLDE OESTE)

The Portuguese participation obtained excellent results, with the individual and collective performances being considered, globally, of great quality.

From an early age, Portuguese youngsters, guided by their teachers, «knew how to distinguish themselves through their commitment, dedication, sportsmanship and excellent ability to overcome difficulties», points out Esporte Escolar.

In addition to the sporting performance, “the excellent spirit of friendship and mutual help, the fantastic ethical behavior and fair play revealed by the Portuguese delegation” should be highlighted.

In this context, the young Matilde Cerqueira, from AE Ponte de Lima and the physiotherapist André Refacho, were distinguished at the closing ceremony, with the Fair Play award, for their permanent collaboration, respect and attitude of respect towards others. participants in the FISEC Games.

On the last day of the Games, all Portuguese teams were playing decisive games and access to the podium places, «something that few countries can boast about».

Rui Carvalho, national coordinator of School Sports, who headed the Portuguese delegation, stressed that the »global balance is exceptional and all, students and teachers, are to be congratulated, for the excellent work carried out throughout the school year»,

The same official pointed out that after two years conditioned by the pandemic, "the performance revealed by the school teams present in these games, prove the quality of the work that is developed in the scope of School Sports, in schools, from north to south of the country" .

The 2022 edition of the FISEC games brought together young people (girls and boys) born in 2005, 2006 and 2007, from Germany, Austria, Chile, Flanders, France, Hungary, Holland, Ireland, Italy, Malta, Palestine, Portugal, Czech Republic and Romania.

The competitions took place in the modalities of Athletics, Basketball, Futsal, Swimming, Table Tennis and Volleyball.

The games in question are organized by FISEC, an institution that brings together all the national entities that promote School Sports, with Portugal being an effective member of that organization.
