Silves expresses condolences for the death of Manuel Castelo Ramos

«Man of culture and strongly involved in the defense, safeguard and enhancement of the historical and cultural heritage of Silves», recalls the Municipality

The Municipality of Silves expressed this Friday, June 17, its "deep sorrow" for the death of Manuel Francisco Castelo Ramos.

The former director of the Cork Museum and former councilor of the CDU, died this Thursday, June 16, at the age of 64.

Manuel Ramos was also a professor at the EB 2,3 Garcia Domingues school in Silves, a historian and a master in Art History, with scientific production dispersed in magazines, conference proceedings and other publications.

«A man of culture and strongly involved in the defense, safeguarding and enhancement of the historical and cultural heritage of Silves, he held the position of director of the Cork Museum of the former Fábrica do Inglês. He was the main driving force behind its creation, winning the Luigi Micheletti prize for the best European industrial museum in 2001. He collaborated with the local authority so that the Fábrica do Inglês project was classified by the Directorate-General for Cultural Heritage as a property of interest Público, as well as within the scope of the project for its rehabilitation and recovery", says the Municipality of Silves in a statement.

Manuel Ramos also stood out as a non-permanent councilor of the Municipality of Silves in the 2006-2009 municipal term, elected in the Lists of the Unitary Democratic Coalition (CDU), a political force that is currently at the forefront of the municipality's destinies.

From its political activity, the Chamber highlights «its highly qualified intervention in the uncompromising defense of public policies, territorial and social cohesion, the development of the county and the local public interest».

“Having served the population of this municipality as a councilor for the Silves City Council, Professor Manuel Ramos leaves memories and acts that will perpetuate his figure and his example among the population and the bodies of the local administration”, concludes the municipality, leaving “the heartfelt condolences” to the family, namely to his wife, children, the rest of the family and friends.
