Real-time information available online that allows people to know whether emergency rooms in Algarve hospitals are open or closed. This is one of the suggestions put forward by Cristóvão Norte, president of the PSD Algarve, to mitigate the recurring problem of the temporary closure of these services, in the units of the Centro Hospital Universitário do Algarve (CHUA).

On the sidelines of a visit to this institution, Cristóvão Norte pointed out that «over the years, with increasing frequency and in a greater number of specialties, we have been witnessing the phenomenon of yo-yo emergencies, now open, closed, with a particular focus on CHUA'.

«It is common, unfortunately, in specialties such as obstetrics, pediatrics, orthopedics, among others, the urgency of Faro or Portimão being unattended – as has happened in recent days and will happen more often, as it is a structural problem -, swinging from one hospital to another without the citizens who need care being aware of this important fact», he added. .

To mitigate this situation, the PSD urges the Government to “guide the Centro Hospitalar do Algarve to put online, in real time, information about open and closed emergencies, the specialties offered, in order to prevent unnecessary travel that only causes anguish and suffering to the sick and loss of time that can be irreparable”.

Cristóvão Norte even says that the fact that people do not know what to count on is something «of the greatest seriousness». «We are selling a pig in a poke, guaranteeing access to a service that often does not exist, endangering lives and timely access to those who need it».

In this way, «the PSD Algarve demands that this emergency regime be put to an end, which has nothing of urgency and that it be defined once and for all how best to act in the face of scarce resources to respond to emergency situations, contrary to the Government's logic. who prefers to look like they have emergencies everywhere without actually having them».
