Registration deadline for the Monchique Hiking Festival extended until June 7th

O registration deadline for the numerous activities at the Monchique Hiking Festival was extended until tomorrow, the 7th of June. The festival will take place over the long weekend from the 10th to the 12th, with the motto «On the waterways».

In addition to the proposed walks, there are also activities with children and families in mind, such as the Storyteller, Science in the Garden animated by the Centro Ciência Viva de Lagos, the Peddy-Paper “Exploring the Water Around Us”, or even, closing the first day, an Astronomical Observation, also promoted by CCV Lagos, which promises «the moon in its splendor, the constellations and their stories, the sky and its mysteries. With our eyes on the sky, we will explore every visible star». It will be from 21 pm to midnight, at the Miradouro de S. Sebastião (next to the Tourist Office).

As for hikes, there are ones for all tastes and physical preparation: an 8-kilometer hike along the «Caminhos de Outrara», another along the Cascades Trail (PR5 MCQ), a 12-kilometer (short version) or 17 km (long) hike. , the Caminho das Caldas à Picota (PR2 MCQ), with 18 km, the Moinhos trail (PR4), with 9,6 km, a pedestrian path in Marmelete (PR6), with 8,4 km, a walk through Cerro do Castelo de Alferce (9 km), another along the Adelfeira Route, Relíquia da Laurissilva Continental (8 km), a 6,8 km Fóia Trail, but covered at night, are some of the program's suggestions, which can be consult by clicking here.

Some of the tours are paid (albeit at festival prices) and registrations must be made directly with the nature tourism companies that promote and guide them. Registration for the free activities is made to the email [email protected].

The Monchique Hiking Festival is an event integrated in the annual calendar of AWS – Algarve Walking Season, a regional project to jointly promote hiking festivals in the Algarve, and in the Project “Revitalize Monchique – Tourism as a catalyst“, financed by Turismo de Portugal.

The Festival, promoted by the Municipality of Monchique, has as co-promoters the Algarve Tourism Region, the Algarve Tourism Association and the Almargem Association.
