Popular Marches start at Portimão Arena and only stop at Praia da Rocha

First parade is tomorrow

The Popular Marches of Portimão are back and will start tomorrow, the 3rd, at 22:00, in the Portimão Arena, located in the city's Fair and Exhibition Park, the place chosen for the first of the five free-entry parades that will be promoted in honor of the Popular Saints.

This will be the second time that the marches are presented in this pavilion, in what the Portimão City Council anticipates will be “a procession full of color, animation, music and harmonious choreography”.

There will be parades on the Mexilhoeira Grande football field (10th, 22:00 pm), in the old auction house in Portimão (18th, 22:00 pm), in the riverside area of ​​Alvor (24th, 22:00 pm) and in Praia da Rocha, «do Miradouro to Fortaleza Santa Catarina, always along Avenida Tomás Cabreira» (25th, 22:00).

«A few hundred marchers will participate in this eminently popular party, representing the Sociedade Filarmónica Portimonense, Sporting Glória ou Morte Portimonense, Sociedade Recreativa Figueirense and CIRM – Clube de Instrução e Recreio Mexilhoeirense, which will be joined by the Marcha da Vila de Alvor , organized by the Parish Council itself using the voluntary work of the population», according to the municipality.

Also associated with the party are three guest marches from neighboring municipalities, representing the Associação Grupo de Amigos da Pedreira (Silves), which will perform on the 10th, the Clube Desportivo de Odiáxere (Lagos), on the 18th, and the Football Club " The Estombarenses” (Lagoa), on the 24th.

«In total, about a thousand people will be involved, including marchers, choreographers and costume designers, who once again wear the spirit of associativism and give free rein to the imagination and genuine popular sense, evoking various themes related to sociocultural heritage and customs and traditions. regional offices», describes the Portimão Chamber.

The arraiais will also resume and take place at Praça da República, in the city centre, always from 20 pm, with the following programme: 00th – Folklore and “Tuna Não Touch Nada” Group of the Instituto de Cultura de Portimão and Singing Group “Os Amigos da Figueira” (11:20 pm), in addition to Pedro Silva (30:22 pm); 00th – Traditional Portuguese Music Singing Group “Estrelas do Barlavento” (18:20) and Marcelo Rio (30:22); 00th – Marco António (25:20) and Sónia Costa (30:22).

In addition to the musical entertainment, there will also be four food and drink stalls on site, run by Sociedade Vencedora Portimonense, Clube União Portimonense, Clube Desportivo e Recreativo da Pedra Mourinha and Sporting Glória ou Morte Portimonense.

The festivities are organized by the Municipality of Portimão, together with the Parish Councils of Portimão, Alvor and Mexilhoeira Grande, «with the enthusiastic commitment of the communities involved, which mobilize large hundreds of people of all age groups and sectors of society , which is joined by a few thousand spectators, including residents and visitors».
